Being Perfect – The Road to Recovery

Many of us feel the need to be perfect, particularly when it comes to our career.  We chase the elusive search for perfection.
Enough is never enough trying to achieve the unachievable.

Reaching for unattainable standards can be harmful. I know, since my entire life I’ve set myself up for disappointment trying to be perfect. The need to be perfect creates doubt, critical self judgement and doesn’t make life easier. It makes it lonelier.

Perfectionism can steal your enthusiasm, diminish your accomplishments, and creates doubt.

LETTING GO OF PERFECTIONISM:

  • Acknowledge the need to be perfect is something you do
  • Ask yourself “what’s so bad if I’m less than perfect?”
  • Tell yourself “good enough is good enough”
  • Ask yourself “what part of me is perfectionism serving?”
  • Give yourself deadlines so you don’t re-work things to death

Most importantly – be kind to yourself.

“Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor.”
